I think there's a time in just about everyone's life when they feel like a piece of Doggy Poo themselves. As a matter of fact, as I write this, I do indeed feel like a piece of Doggy Poo, right now. But that's neither here nor there. At it's heart, Doggy Poo is a sentimental story for children, with the universal message that yes - there is a place and a purpose for everything in this world. Of course, this is a message that applies to adults as well as children, and the classic style of stop motion animation used in this 30-minute feature is likely to appeal to all ages as well.
Based on a popular children's book, Doggy Poo enters the world alone and afraid. All by himself, sitting on the side of the road, his first introduction to another living creature is that of a bird, who pecks at him, and then walks away in disgust. Doggy Poo's first form of guidance comes from a lump of soil, that had fallen out of a cart, also on the side of the road. The lump of soil explains to Doggy Poo how he longs to be back in the field, helping vegetables to grow, but fears he will just be run over when the next cart comes by. Lucky for him though, when the farmer comes by with his cart, he sees the soil and recognizing the value of 'good' soil, places him back in the cart and takes him back to the farm. Alone again, Doggy Poo now realizes that even those who feel they may no longer have a place in this world, may just rediscover what that place is. He's hopeful that he'll soon find his own.
It isn't long before a stray leaf blows by and introduces himself to Doggy Poo. Doggy Poo asks why the leaf is no longer hanging from a tree, and the leaf explains how leaves fall from trees when the seasons change. The leaf also explains how all living things eventually die. Leaf blows away and Doggy Poo is soon met by a mother chicken and her baby chicks which is then followed by a visit from a dandelion sprout. Without giving too much away, let's just say that dandelion sprout is the one to finally show Doggy Poo his true purpose.
Doggy Poo is a class act production all the way. With great animation, soundtrack (also available on CD) and a story that can stand the test of time, at 30-minutes it's very quick, and very entertaining. Audio and video quality are equally impressive. Picture is clear and the stereo sound is distortion free. Extras include Central Park Media trailers, a very cool 24-minute making of, The option to use the alt angle button to view storyboards during the film a music video and still galleries.
The story is sweet, and the stop motion animation, very clever. This film will appeal to young and old alike. Presented on DVD in a very appealing special edition package, Doggy Poo comes highly recommended. Wow, I can't believe I just said, "Doggy Poo comes highly recommended" - enjoy!
