Central Park Media returns with Part 2 in the continuing anime saga of sex and violence that is known as Nightmare Campus. All of your old favorites are back for another round of demon action as well as participation in some truly graphic scenes of debauchery that are definitely NOT for the kiddies. Once again, Disney this ain't folks, so if you're not easily offended and looking to be shocked, disgusted and thoroughly entertained - then read on!
Spoiler Warning!!!! It's going to get to a point in which it'll be nearly impossible for me to discuss the storyline of each episode as they are released without giving away important plot points. That's right, I'm giving away a lot of shit in the next paragraph about the story (more so than usual), so if you wanna go in fresh (as the kids say these days) then you'd best skip over the next paragraph and run home crying to yo mama! Also, be sure to read my review for Volume 1 here!
Episode 2 : The Cry of the Demon Lord Aquifel - Volume 2 begins as Akira lures some of the demonized gang members into a warehouse with the promise of some added powers, but the whole thing turns into a bloodbath as Akira unleashes a power causing everyone to practically melt in seconds. This scene begs the question though; What are Akira's true intentions? Much to the surprise of his fellow students Masao returns to classes after thought dead and he continues to fight the great demon Esedess within him. At this point we're also briefly introduced to the new school nurse and all of the students seem to notice her arrival almost immediately (guy and girl alike). Although she doesn't do much, it's obvious that her intentions are shifty. In the mean time, many of the students (demon or otherwise) are giving into their carnal desires (if you know what I mean) as the demon gangs plot their next move. Because of a double cross Reiko seems to switch sides to that of good, while Akira shows his true self as the demon Aquifel - his intentions are anything but good. Masao nearly gives in to Esedess while on a date with Yuuko, but holds it in - only to go on a bloody and sexual rampage through the city moments later. He awakens, covered in blood - confused and frightened. The whole thing comes to a bloody and monster penis erupting finale as Esedess and Aquifel battle for control of the kidnapped and ravished Yuuko. Akira doesn't make it out alive.
Once again, I have to commend the creators of Nightmare Campus for crafting a detailed story with solid and well developed characters. Each episode thus far has provided enough twists to certainly keep me on my toes. Despite the fascinating visuals (I'm going to hell - that's for sure) the story holds up on its own and all combined formulate an extremely entertaining 40-minutes. It's extremely bloody and disturbingly sexual in some extremely naughty, naughty ways - good times!
Quality wise, Nightmare Campus looks quite good on DVD. There's really no evidence of print damage and colors are really sharp and vibrant. The stereo surround track available in Japanese or English with optional yellow English subs also fares quite well. Surround tracks don't offer much to the viewer, but that's OK because the front separation is handled quite well. Both audio tracks (English and Japanese) are comparable in depth of sound and clarity.
Extras include a brief art and sketch gallery along with a host of trailers for other Central Park Media titles including Nightmare Campus, F Force, Four Play, Pure Love, Mama Mia, Professor Pain and a preview of some Manga titles. Also featured is a segment called Anime Artform, which provides an insight into this type of animation geared towards beginners. There's also a bit called Demon Lord Aquifel Promo, which is basically another trailer (no English) that highlights Akira and the demon Aquifel. Also included is a host of DVD ROM features including more galleries and production notes/credits.
I'm digging the series immensely so far. After only two episodes, I'm really looking forward to part 3. This series is certainly not for the prude or sexually squeamish, but if you're anything like me (then god help you) you'll prob dig the hell out of Nightmare Campus. So far, this series comes highly recommended. Keep an eye out around these parts for Nightmare Campus Vol. 3.
