In the near future, cities have overtaken the suburbs in an explosion of urban sprawl. In this overpopulated chaos the last line of defense against the rampant tide of crime and terror is the NEW DOMINION TANK POLICE. Unfortunately, especially for the criminals, they're not the collective of cool-headed professionals the city leaders would want them to be.

EPISODE 1 Launch Tank Police! - As a funeral procession winds it way through the city streets, a rouge biker attempts to flee the scene of his crime. Bad luck for him the Tank Police are on his trail! Leona and Al are in the specially modified tank Leona has christened Bonaparte, and her rather aggressive tactics cause quite a bit of destruction as she brings in her man. At HQ, the Chief reads her the riot act; many of the city leaders believe the Tank Police are more trouble than they're worth. A new transfer officer - Ishagawi, claims there are better, more politically correct ways to deal with the criminal menace, much to the dismay of the Tank Police crews. As if to prove Ishagawi's point, a spider-like mechanoid causes havoc in the city. Can the Tank Police stop this new threat and save their reputation? Or is it the scrap heap for Leona and Bonaparte?

EPISODE 2 Charles Brenton Master Detective - On a stormy night, a young woman is brutally murdered in a city parking garage - the only witnesses are two thieves, the Puma Sister Ani and Uni. The next day, a rally is held opposing the Tank Police. The Chief is delighted to no end, especially when Leona overreacts and blows a few buildings up. Back at HQ, Leona realizes she knows the murdered woman. It's her former partner Charon, from Leona's first days as a motorcycle cop. When the Chief rebuffs her attempts to take the case, she reacts very badly and is relieved of her duties. After confronting the Puma Sisters, Leona tracks the murderer to the massive (and shady) Dai Nippon Gaiken Corporation (DNG), whom it turns out are looking to recruit her. Will Leona survive the 'interview' with the nefarious DNG? And who is that mustached man shadowing her every move, anyway?

EPISODE 3 Limit the Tube Way - As the Chief and the regular police assemble on a big bust; Leona, Al and Bonaparte stop a truckload of gunrunners. However, a massive truck crushes the fiends' vehicle on its relentless path into the city. Turns out this particular rig is loaded with a volatile explosive and driven by remote control. It's destination - the heart of the city. Captain Brenton activates the Tank Police against the Chief's orders and they try to block the truck's access to the tunnel into the city. With the truck appearing unstoppable, the Mayor orders the city to be evacuated. Her foresight appears to be prudent when the truck plows through the Tank Police barricade without slowing down one bit. Can the Tank Police crack the codes and stop this massive terror from liquidizing the city? And will Leona get her revenge on the truck that scratched her Bonaparte?

EPISODE 4 The Chase - It's a foggy night in the city, and the Puma Sisters are up to no good - in a stolen Bonaparte! It's no small wonder that when Leona gets to HQ the next morning (after oversleeping), she's not in a good mood! Meanwhile, the Mayor has proposed a gun ban, which the DNG executives are totally against because it would curtail their profits. They need their gun money to develop a new 'virtual narcotic' drug. But the only disc with the formula is missing - and the chemist who developed the process has been busted. Now this scientist had toured the Tank Police HQ the previous day... Leona and Al find Bonaparte's trail, and discover him, and the Puma Sisters, in an old DNG warehouse. Unfortunately for all, there's also a cadre of DNG terrorists, willing to slaughter everyone to get their hands on the tank. What secret could be inside Bonaparte?

EPISODE 5 Conflict City - The New Dominion prison is attacked, and Mueller (the villain from Episode 2) escapes into the night. There's uber-chaos at HQ; seems there's crime everywhere in city this night! But each time the Tank Police respond, the terrorist have already fled the scene! It's DNG causing all the trouble, of course. Their agenda to quash the Mayor's gun ban includes assaulting her very home! After nabbing the recalcitrant Puma Sister, Leona and Al respond to the attack at the Mayor's. There's another mechanoid reeking havoc, and it will take all the Tank Police have to stop its rampage. Has DNG finally won? Or will the Tank Police solve their diabolical riddle?

EPISODE 6 End the Dreaming - The New Dominion hospital is evacuated - the Mayor is not dead, but in critical condition, The Tank Police realize that DNG will stop at nothing to silence the mayor, and set up outside the hospital for the inevitable attack. They don't have to wait long - it's another mechanoid, the best yet. The battle soon turns to the mech's favor. Leona and Al trace the remote signal controlling the mechanoid, but are told to stand down by the Chief. Turns out there's a third player in this game, and they are protected by international immunity! Will Leona and the Tank Police prevail against such odds, or is an international incident unavoidable?

Now this is how it should be done. Although not the first Tank Police series, NEW DOMINION TANK POLICE is a lot of fun, combining great characters with an intricate plot with lots of action. Leona seems to be the typical hothead, but shows great resourcefulness and depth throughout the series. Supporting characters such as Al and Captain Brenton are allowed to develop their own nuances as well. Even characters with small roles have unique and interesting quirks. The producers keep up a great pace in the series; there's a lot going on, but one never gets lost in the plot, and all the action has a point to further the story along. Episode 3 is a good example of this; the final resolution of the runaway truck story leaves one thinking "That was so cool." The animation is well done, and although not extremely intricate, it's on par with similar TV anime series from the early 90's. The picture quality itself is very good for the transfer, and the sound is very decent as well (check out the explosions in Surround!)

The DVD release of NEW DOMINION TANK POLICE only comes with a few extras. There are the standard previews of other Manga titles, but also included is a Tank Police personnel/weapons file, highlighting each character and the tanks themselves. This extra is essential viewing, and really should be read before watching the series as it gives the viewer a good background on the people involved, even if one has seen previous Tank Police shows.

NEW DOMINION TANK POLICE is an action-packed adventure with great characters and an interesting story. Leona and Bonaparte rock! I feel sorry for any criminal who crosses their path...
