...and we're back!
by Mad Scientist (May 24, 2005 - 9:07pm)
Er... sorry about that. We kinda dozed off for a few months there, leaving the Games Channel to rot like a festering, maggot-ridden corpse. I tell ya, there's nothing like a soul-crushing job to suck the life right out of you and turn your treasured hobbies into monumental chores! But I'm not bitter, really.
Quite a few triple-A quality titles came and went during our extended winter coma, and we'll bring you reviews of the biggest ones as soon as we can remember how to type properly. In the meantime, Dave and I are attempting to make peace by presenting our thoughts on the press conferences that preceded this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.
Some earth-shattering revelations were handed down from on high at E3 this year, and we're still sorting through the aftermath and trying to determine just who has the upper hand (hint: it rhymes with "phony"). My take reflects my typical research-paper rigidity and provides a sobering yin to Dave's raging yang. I think J. Allard might have kicked his dog or something, I don't know.
In any event, it's good to be back. We'll try not to fall off the face of the earth again, guaranteed.*
*Not a guarantee.

On Hiatus for Retooling
by Mad Scientist (November 3, 2004 - 11:05 am)
I'm sure you've all noticed that things have been eerily quiet around the site for the past month. I've been working myself to death lately (300 hours in 3 weeks, yipe!) and I haven't really had time to play games, let alone review them. We've all got a fat stack of titles building up and it could be months before we get through them all. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.
I'm only now starting to get into the bigger releases, but with the really big dogs yet to come (Halo 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater both come out in the next 2 weeks), you probably won't be seeing much in the way of game content anytime soon. Dave's xmas vacation comes early this week with the release of Ratchet and Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal, so I doubt you'll hear much from him either.
So there won't be a whole lot going on in the next few months. We apologize, but that's just how it is. In the meantime, we can heartily recommend both Dead or Alive Ultimate and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The former is a DOA fan's wet dream come true, with robust online play and a sickening variety of skimpy costumes. Get it, jump on Xbox Live, and then cry yourself to sleep over how bad you really are at fighting games.
San Andreas is even better than the hype would lead you to believe; it is massive in a way that video games haven't seen before and should not be missed. Beating pedestrians to death with a two-foot long purple dildo is more fun than I can possibly describe here. Killzone is on store shelves today, and it should be an excellent sci-fi shooter if the OPM demo is any indication.
There's lots to play right now, and we hope you'll spend plenty of quality time with your PS2s and Xboxes in the coming weeks. We'll be back with reviews as soon as we can feasibly fit in work, sleep, games and writing into the same schedule.
